Due to the impact of COVID-19 the Victorian Showmen’s Guild has lodged a submission with the FairWork Commission to amend the Rules of the organisation concerning the 2020 election.
The Victorian Showmen’s Guild is seeking certification by the FairWork Commission (Commission) under section 159 of the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 (RO Act), of a Rule alteration approved by our Members at a Special General Meeting held on Thursday 15 October 2020.
A proposed new rule to be added under the heading ‘Election of Committee’ as a subrule labelled 16.8 is as follows:
Notwithstanding any provisions elsewhere in these rules the terms of office for all offices which commenced at the 2019 Annual General Meeting shall be two years. Thereafter, the terms of office for all offices in the organisation shall be one year.
The Rule alteration is aimed at assisting the Victorian Showmen’s Guild to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic by delaying the elections until 2021, with the current officers remaining in office for an additional year.
Under the Victorian Showmen’s Guild Rules, the term of office is one year. The Rule change extends the current term to two years.
The Rule change only applies to the 2020 term of office. It does not extend any future terms of office.
Further information and updates will be presented to Members at the Annual General Meeting of Members to be held on Tuesday 24th November 2020 from 10.30 am.
